Last Friday, March 11th 2016, at the Chamber of the Deputies, we joined and supported an important event for the cause of sustainability: the official presentation of the “Italian Alliance for the Sustainable Development” (ASviS). It is constituted of about 70 Italian organizations and foundations such as PLEF. The aim we share as members of the Alliance is the one to change direction to contemporary models of development and to strengthen sustainability as fundamental value at global level. The ambition of the Alliance is to reach targets of sustainable development of the Global Agenda 2030 and to guide people towards a shared and necessary path based on forms of equality and egalitarianism towards economic, natural, human, social structures of the capital.
As Enrico Giovannini, spokesman of the Alliance, affirmed it deals with a change of paradigm: “economy, society, institutions are never imagined but are as they have always been, united as we have seen when the economic crisis became social and institutional”.
Sustainability is, therefore, a secolar ethic because it works in the society by involving it totally. Italy should work hard in order to respect the commitment towards the agenda of sustainable development managed by ONU. This is not a task with a legal obligation, but with a moral one: sustainability is an anthropological condition which can be reached only through the removal of economical, legal, social and cultural discriminations practiced between generations and genders; talking universally, with the involvement of all countries, each of them committed in its specific program based on objectives and strategies; at the participation level, with the territorial and global, spread and transversal coordination of all the social parts. As Giovannini stressed: “there are not differences between countries, but we are all countries in sustainable development”.

The path of the sustainable thought proceeds obtaining unanimous consent from the countries members of the NATO, which, since 1987 have supported the Bruntland Report, a milestone of the concept of sustainability. On the other hand, the President of the Chamber Laura Boldrini held the first intervention of the day and stated it is time to decide and not to reflect about the theme: “what is wrong in our society is apathy that is to consider everything is difficult to reach” and claiming the urgency to act: just to remember the case of our country “since 1980, inequalities has had a growth of 33% in comparison to 13% of other countries of OCSE”. “Inequalities of gender – added President Boldrini – the possibility to use the green sources of energy at low cost, the dignified job, the fight against the reconversion of the industrial system, the production of food in a responsible way are themes which can be faced and solved only by creating an alliance and this one shows maturity in this view. In this sense, a non-sectorial strategy of development is being acted and it ensures an ideal of social justice with adequate economical rewards.
Ban Ki-Moon affirms implicitly new technologies and globalized world are the only alternatives at disposal to be chosen or the world will be destroyed. These reflections represent new signs of necessity and of value of the recognition of sustainability in the context of the global development. This vision can be applied in many social levels and parts: in the public sector, in the civil society, in centres of research, in the fields of information and culture. This systemic approach will determine and characterize the future of sustainability. Sustainability is necessary to ensure the potential longevity of a structure of support for the human destiny and of the environment. The consciousness of the effects of our actions on the environment is our priority to ensure durability of the global ecosystem because this is sensible to the human activity applied in the system itself.
In this view, sustainability should be expressed through qualitative parameters which can help a vision of sustainable development sensible to the ecological, anthropological and territorial instances. In this view, sustainability is a vision which is founded on the single gesture, from the local which is a “micro” dimension which expands through the synergistic and negotiating design able to combine the three fundamental and united dimensions of the development: environment, economy, society. As foundation, we will give our contribute to the Alliance with the consciousness the only path we can walk is the one which will bring Italy to a sustainable development by practicing a spread and inclusive collaborative ability towards community and civil society, social parts, and public authorities, testifying everything is interconnected and inter-contextualized.
