Sustainability as Art of Ethically Acting

Paint_the_world

An assumption of Goethe explains art expresses itself as a sort of inquiring sight into nature, that means art is representation and not pure imitation. At the basis of these preliminary considerations, a first conceptual plan resides and outlines art as an exercise of reflection upon nature: it helps well to combine the aesthetics vision of Goethe with the ethical behaviour of sustainability. This last, in fact, among its multiple values, keeps inside a spirit of responsibility towards ecosystem in its most general sense, a “critical sight” which – in this way – invites the artist of Goethe and the contemporary man to reflect: they are both compelled to know what they experience. In Goethe’s thought, knowledge is action and acting is itself a central concept in the sustainable thought. Sustainability spreads a spirit of action which aims at the welfare of ecosystem. For this reason, art and sustainability should be considered universal phenomena and not merely partial: these expressions, in fact, should escape control or parcelling logics of their representative force. If – in some way – art and sustainability are manipulated, compartmentalized and submitted to some intellectual powers, they do not exist. Art and sustainability are distinguished by a widespread nature, they are practices of thought that are, for certain ways, sacred and redemptive powers able to orient the individual towards a behaviour addressed to the values of beauty and of the responsibility towards the planet.
